Time.com has a lovely photo essay consisting of intimate photos of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and his family. It is at the same time haunting, beautiful and human.

Look carefully at the photo above; Can you see who’s watching over the King dining room?

A Race Against Time

By sure, most of you have heard about the devastation in Haiti. Time is dwindling as the the crisis is about to reach its 72 hour mark.

I can’t even begin to imagine how any of the citizens, visitors and family members of Haiti and Haitians are feeling right now. It’s awful yet I pray for a light to shine through to the oppressed and suffering.

Keep praying. Providence is among us.

Don’t hesitate to empty out and realize what you can do for this world. We aren’t helpless:

A Bond Unsevered

December 31, 2009 kungfucianism Leave a comment

I woke up this morning to a very touching story between two 8-year old children, confined to a hospital but connected by a special bond. The catch is that one, Marya is a Palestinian Muslim and the other, Orel is an Israeli Jew. Both are victims of the intense bombings between Hamas and Israel but within the walls of the hospital, the parents of these two children have crossed the lines from what should have been hatred to a connection that is hardly seen between the two countries.

This isn’t a story about ethnic strains or hatred but a story about looking beyond cultural differences and celebrating together the harmony that human beings were meant to have.

This story was particularly effective because it is so saddening to read about the tragedy that occurs throughout the world every single day. And being the last day of 2009, it’s nice to find a little hope amidst all the sadness. However, the article does not fail to note the underlying pain these wars cause the children who are supposed to be “the future.” No child deserves to spend the rest of their lives with half a brain or only the movement of their head.
